Emi Klinger is also referred to as Ama or Emma in some sources. She was born on 27 September 1819.1 She was the daughter of Alexander Klinger and Elizabeth Schwalm. Emi Klinger was baptized on 24 October 1819, Zion (Klinger's) Church, Erdman, Dauphin County, PA.2 She married John Reed, son of Peter M. Reed and Catherine Flickinger. By deed dated March 9, 1837, her parents Alexander and Elizabeth (Schwalm) Klinger conveyed 89 acres, 62 perches of their land to Emi (Klinger) Reed, along with Samuel Klinger, David Klinger, and John Klinger, her brothers, as tenants in common. This land, in both Schuylkill County and Dauphin County, likely included Johann Philip Klinger's original homestead. Samuel was then unmarried, and John Klinger and John Reed were millwrights.
On April 12, 1849, David and John Klinger, by deed of partition, conveyed 47 acres, 2 perches of that land to Emi Reed and Samuel Klinger. A week later, Samuel received the remaining part. Eventually, Samuel and his wife sold that portion to John Reed, effectively giving Emi and John control over the origial 89 acres. After John Reed died in 1881, his will conveyed all of his land to his wife Emi. By her will, probabted in March 1902, she conveyed the land to Elizabeth (Strohecker) Paul, who had been her servant at the time of the 1900 Census.
Mary Klinger notes that Emi and John Reed had only one child, an adopted daughter, Emma J. Clark, who died in 1878.3,4 In 1850, "Ami" and John Reed were living in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA, where John was millwright. Their household included her 22-year old brother David S. Klinger, a carpenter.5 In 1860, "Emma" and John Reed were farmers in Lykens Township, and their household included Adaline Klinger, likely Emma's niece, as a domestic servant.6 At the time of the 1870 Census, Emma and John's household included Adaline Klinger (21) as a servant, 13-year old John Klinger, farm laborer, and the 1-year old Emma Clark, who according to some sources Emma and John adopted. She died in 1878. By 1880, Emma and John were living alone.7,8 At the time of the 1900 Census for Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Emma was head of a household that included just a servant, Lizzie Strohecker (born May 1874). The Census records that Emma was a widow and had given birth to no children.9 Emi Klinger died on 12 March 1902, at age 82.1 She was buried at Zion (Klinger's) Church, Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA.10 Her estate was probated in March 1902; By her will probated in March 1902, Emma conveyed her portion of Philip Klinger's original homestead to Elizabeth (Strohecker) Paul, who had been her servant.11

Albert Klinger

Albert Klinger was born on 14 January 1850.1,2 He was the son of Samuel Klinger and Balinda Savidge. Albert Klinger was baptized on 30 June 1850, Zion (Klinger's) Chiurch, Erdman, Dauphin County, PA.3 There is considerable uncerainty concerning the listings of three of Samuel and Balinda (Savidge) Klinger's children. Various church and Census listings show 3 sons, "Olaver," Frank, and Albert, all born around 1850, which seems to suggest that these may all be listings of the same child. Samuel and Balinda batptised most of their children at Klinger's Church, yet only one of these three, Albert (b. Jan. 14, bap. Jun 30, 1850) is listed in the Klinger's Church records. There is no mention of either Olaver or Frank. Oliver (but not Albert or Frank) is listed in the 1850 Census as 6 months old in June, 1850, suggesting roughly the same birth date at Albert. The 1860 Census lists a 10-year old son Frank, but does not mention either Albert or Olaver. Neither of these names are listed in the 1870 Census. Some sources list Albert as "Albert Oliver." There appears to be no subsquent information about Albert, so it is likely that he died before 1870.4,5,6,7
