    Alva E. Mervine, 26 Carbon Minersville, died Tuesday morning in Pottsville Hospital, shortly after being admitted. She was stricken ill in her home.
    She was born in Minersville, a daughter of the late William and Lucy Spanle Klinger.
    She attended Minersville schools.
    Mrs. Mervine was employed at the former Phillips and Jones Minersville.
    She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Minersville, Women's Sodality and Bona More Society of the parish.
    Her husband, Clinton died Oct. 16, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a brother, William Klinger.
    Surviving are daughter, June Williams, Willingboro, N.J; a grandson, Gary Williams; a great-granddaughter, Tara; a sister, Helen Weigand, Pottsville; a niece and a nephew.
    Services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Friday from John Dutcavich Funeral Home, Minersville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The Rev. John W. Bambrick will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Peace Cemetery, Branch Township. There will be no calling hours Thursday evening.

    Helen R. Weigand, 97, of Pottsville, passed away Friday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
    Born in Minersville, April 11, 1908, she was a daughter of the late William H. and Lucy Spanie Klinger.
    She graduated from Minersville High School in 1927.
    She was secretary to the superintendent of Minersville Area schools for nine years, and was a medical assistant for Dr. Wesley Hildreth, Pottsville, for 5 1/2 years until retiring.
    She was treasurer for Kiwanis in Pottsville for 18 years, a volunteer for American Red Cross bloodmobile, a member of Computing Board, an officer of elections and assisted with Meals on Wheels,
    She was preceded in death by her first husband, George R. Beddow, M.D., in 1942, to whom she was married for six years; her second husband, Robert L. Weigand, to whom she was married for 18 years; a sister, Alva Mervine in 1965; and a brother, William Klinger.
    Surviving are a son, Richard W. and his wife, Mary Louise Beddow, Tobago, West Indies; a daughter, Suzanne R. Ackerman, Glen Mills; a granddaughter, Brigitte and her husband, James Parvin, Enola; a grandson, Richard Jr. and his wife, Shannon Beddow, Marys ville; five great-grandchildren, Tristan, Caroline, Sebastian, Ashlyn and Dylan.
    Funeral services and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Helen to Covenant Home Care, 1510 Highway 61 South, Pottsville, PA 17901 or Charles Baber Cemetery Memorial Fund, Trinity Episcopal Church, Centre Street and Howard Avenue, Pottsville, PA 17901.     DR. GEORGE E. BEDDOW
    Dr. George E. Beddow, one of Pottsville most promising young physicians, died unexpectedly last night at the Pottsville Hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for the past week. He was 35 years old.
    A native of Minersville, Dr. Beddow was a graduate of Bucknell University and Temple Medical College. He interned at the Pottsville Hospital and then founded a large practice at Pine Grove.
    Last year, Dr. Beddow was forced to discontinue general practice due to overwork and closed his Pine Grove offices, remaining in Pottsville. He was specializing in eye work lately, being on the staffs of several large New York hospitals. He was stricken ill while taking a vacation at Pottsville.
    Surviving are his, widow and one son, Richard.
    A frequent visitor to Shenandoah, Dr. Beddow had many friends in this immediate area, who were shocked to learn of his untimely passing.
    Funeral services will be held Friday from the Claud A. Lord funeral home. Pottsville, at the convenience of the family.

    Robert L. Weigand, 55, of 1736 Mahantongo St., suffered a fatal heart attack at his home this morning.
    The family physician, Dr. Earle L. Keeter, was summoned and Weigand was taken by ambulance to Pottsville Hospital where he was admitted at 9:05 a.m. and died at 10 a.m. He had been feeling ill since attending the Pottsville-Reading football game last Thursday.
    A native of Llewellyn, born July 31, 1910, he was a son of the late Grace Clark Weigand, who died in 1958, and Charles Weigand, who resided with him.
    He had attended Pottsville public schools and was a 1928 graduate of Pottsville H. S.
    Mr. Weigand was employed as an outside salesman for Luckenbach and Johnson in Allentown. Prior to this he had worked at Benesch Furniture Store and later was part owner of Reese Furniture Store, both of Pottsville.
    During World War he had served in Okinawa as sergeant technician, fourth grade with 1345th Engineer Combat Battalion. Mr. Weigand was awarded the American Campaign medal. World War II Victory medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal.
    He was a member of Pottsville First Methodist Church, Methodist Men's Club and Kiwanis Club.
    His wife, the former Helen R. Klinger, was first married to Dr. George R. Beddow, who died in 1942. She married her second husband, Robert L. Weigand, on Nov. 27, 1948.
    Surviving in addition to his wife and father are two children, Richard W. of Stoneham, Mass; and Susan, a student at Pottsville Area H. S.
    Funeral Tuesday afternoon from Allen Funeral Home. Rev. Kenneth R. Boohar, his pastor, will officiate. Interiment in Charles Baber Cemetery.

    Suzanne R. Weigand Ackerman, 74, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Pottsville, PA, passed away peacefully on May 20th at Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center, Enola, PA.
    Born in Pottsville, on November 9,1948, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Helen R. (Klinger) Weigand.
    She was a 1966 graduate of Pottsville High School. She then graduated from Shippensburg University, where she earned a B.S. in both Library Science and German; and West Chester University, where she earned a Masters in Educational Media.
    Suzanne worked as a Library/Media Specialist for 34 years at Darby-Colwyn Sr. High School and Penn Wood High School in the William Penn School District, Lansdowne, PA. She lived in the Queens Village section of Philadelphia and Glenn Mills, PA, before retiring to Mechanicsburg in 2006.
    She was an active member of the following organizations: Access PA Consortium, Penn Wood High School Cabinet; Middle States Steering Committee and Visiting Committee; Library Curriculum Committee, and Long Range Plan Committee. Her professional memberships included: Pennsylvania Learning Resources Association, where she served as conference workshop presenter and activities director for two years also on the registration committee; Pennsylvania School Librarians Association, where she was a conference workshop presenter; Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications & Technology, where she was a presenter; and Delaware County School Librarians Association, where she served as secretary for two years. Suzanne received the William Penn School District Service Award, PAECT Student Media Showcase Award, and published articles for the Media and Methods. Sue was well-traveled and truly enjoyed being with all of her new and oldest friends and of course, her Mechanicsburg Book Club!
    In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her brother, Richard W. Beddow, Tobago, West Indies and her beloved cats, Sophie and Blackie.
    Suzanne is survived by niece, Brigitte Parvin, wife of James, and their children: Tristan, Caroline, and Sebastian, of Enola, PA; nephew, Richard W. Beddow II, husband of Melinda, and their children Leyland and Brayden, Mechanicksburg, PA; and Richard’s daughter, Ashlyn, Harrisburg, PA.
    A Memorial service will be held on June 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA, with the Rev. Dr. Kurt Kovalovich officiating.
