    George Henry Snyder, 87, a retired bank executive who was active in industrial development in Hazleton, died Dec. 10 in RoseView Manor, Williamsport, following a short illness.
    Bom in Shamokin July 29, 1907, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Annie Snyder.
    He graduated from Shamokin High School.
    Snyder's banking career began at the Guarantee Trust in Shamokin. From there he moved to the Markle Banking and Trust Co. in Hazleton. Following the merger of several banks, he was named vice president, auditor, and personnel director of Northeastern National Bank of Pennsylvania. He retired from that post in July 1972.
    Snyder served on many community agencies and boards including the board of directors and executive committee of CAN DO Inc. and the Hazleton Industrial Development Corp.
    He also served on the boards of the American Red Cross, the Luzerne County Cancer Drive, the Greater Hazleton United Way and the former White Haven State School. He was treasurer of the local Salvation Army citadel and Meals on Wheels. He was a 32-year member of the Penns Woods Girl Scout Council and was president of the Hazleton Rotary Club in 1961-62.
    Snyder was a member of Diamond United Methodist Church, Hazleton, and was treasurer of the church and a member of its building committee. He was also a member of the church's board of trustees and administrative board.
    Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Rachel E. Raup, also a guest of RoseView Manor; daughters, Mrs. Barry L. (Nancy) Boyer, Montoursville, and Mrs. Michael R. (Sally) Gardy, Muncy, Lycoming County; and two grandsons.
    A memorial service will be held in the chapel at RoseView Manor, 1201 Rural Ave., Williamsport, at 2 p.m. Dec. 29. The Rev. Brian A. Fetterman, pastor of Harris Street United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, will officiate. Burial will be at the family's convenience in Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg, Northumberland County.
    The Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport, is directing the arrangements.
    Memorial contributions can be made to Diamond United Methodist Church, Diamond Avenue and Locust Street, Hazleton, or the charity of one's choice.
