John A. Dockey, Of Herndon RD, War I Veteran John Adam Dockey, 72, a resident of the Stone Valley area Lower Mahanoy Township, Dalmatia RD, died Monday the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was admitted as patient on Nov. 25 and underwent surgery on Dec. 8. He had been previously hospitalized for one week prior to Nov. 18, and had been in failing health the past 10 years.
He was born Aug. 17, 1895, Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, a son the late Franklin L. and Emma Spotts Dockey. He was a veteran of World War I having been inducted April 19, 1918, and was stationed at Camp Lee, Va., prior to his service France with the 313th Field Artillery Battalion.
He was a life and chartering member of Alvin E. Long American Legion Post 504, Herndon RD, a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, Camp No. 6470 of Millersburg, the Hickory Corners community fire company, Zion Lutheran Church Valley. He was a carpenter by occupation prior to his retirement in 1957. He was married to Katherine Grace Schaffer on Dec. 22, 1917 by the late Rev. R. Ira Gass of Pillow. The couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 22.
Surviving are his wife, and the following children, a daughter, Mrs. George Carl, of Dalmatia RD; a son, Dean D. Dockey, of Schenectady, N.Y; another son preceded him death; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Edwin Hoover funeral home, Dalmatia, with the Rev. Arthur W. Roberts, pastor of the Uniontown charge of the United Church of Christ, officiating. He is Mrs. Dockey's pastor. Burial will be in the Stone Valley Cemetery. Relatives and friends received from 7 to p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
