    Danville – Donna M. Staats, 81, passed away with her family on Tuesday July 2, 2013 at the Colonial Manor Health Care Center in Loudonville.
    She was born January 1, 1932 in Mount Vernon to Ronald F. and Grace (Eby) Workman. On August 23, 1953, she married Neil Staats. She was a member of the North Bend Church of the Brethren and the Women's Fellowship Group. She worked for a short time as a secretary for the Danville High School and also at Cooper Bessemer. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, milking cows, and working on the farm with her family. She loved baking, playing organ and piano, and also riding the motorcycle.
    Donna is survived by her husband, Neil, of Danville, her children; Paul (Mary Lou) Staats of Danville, and Denise (Mark) O'Donell of Killbuck, grandchildren; Doug (Lindsey) Staats of Howard, Ashley (Kevin) Wittel of Danville, Nathan (Andrea) Staats of Danville, Katie (Taylor) Faunce of Coshocton, and Garrett O'Donell of Killbuck, 5 great grandchildren; Alayna, Carter, Tessa, Taylor, and Melina, brothers; David Workman, and Dean (Rita) Workman, a sister-in-law, Martha Staats, and many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, a step mother, Florence Workman, a sister-in-law, Shirley Workman, and a brother-in-law, Ned Staats.
    A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2013 at the North Bend Church, 24458 Orange Hill Rd. Danville, 43014. Pastor Patrick Bailey will officiate. Burial will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery on Chapel Rd. Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville.

He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa, and Indiana Holstein Association and a lifetime member of the National Holstein Association. He served as a board member on the Elkhart County Holstein Association and a past board member of the Elkhart County Dairy Association.
    Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W Waterford St., Wakarusa, and one hour prior to Thursday's 10:30 am funeral service at Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa. Byron Paulus, assisted by Pastor David Harper of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Olive East Cemetery.
    Memorials may be given to the church or Life Action Ministries, Niles.3

    Second Lt Robert Paulus, 25, of Elkhart Route 3, was killed in action in Vietnam on June 29, according to a telegram received last week by his parents, Mr and Mrs Arthur Paulus. He was the first resident of the Wakarusa area to lose his life in the Vietnam War.
    Lt Paulus, who had been serving in Vietnam since last May, was killed “while on a combat operation when a hostile force was encountered.” He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division.
    Lt Paulus was born in Olive Twp, May 7, 1944. A graduate of Wakarusa high School, he attended Hanover College.
    He was employed by the Bendix Corp in Patterson, N J, from June 1966 until Oct 1967 when he enlisted in the army.
    He was a member of the Bethel Missionary Church.
    Surviving with his parents are four brothers, Dennis and Byron, at home, Donald, Elkhart Route 3, and Carl Fredrick, Goshen Route 3; a sister, Mrs Jack (Carolyn) Jesse, Elkhart; paternal grandparents, Mr and Mrs Ralph Paulus, Wakarusa; and maternal grandfather, Elmer Eby, Wakarusa.
    In addition to the family is Miss Gayle Richards of Evanston, Ill, fiancé of Lt Paulus.
    Friends will be received at the Rieth Rohrer and Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen after 6 pm Thursday. Services will be held there on Friday, at 7:30 pm with Dr Ben Strohbehn, pastor of the First Christian Church, Wakarusa, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Olive Cemetery.

    GOSHEN - Barbara E. Paulus, 70, of Hampton Circle, Goshen, formerly of SR 19, Goshen, died Saturday April 30, 2011 in Health South Hospital, Sarasota, FL. She was born October 8, 1940 in Winter Park, FL, to the late Carl Allen Mack and Bernice H. (Hyde) Mack Hill. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karlee Renee Grubb; half brother, James Edward Hill; and stepfather, Charles Hill. She retired from Elkhart General Hospital after 35 years as a CNA. She attended Wakarusa Missionary Church and graduated from Laural Brook High School in Dayton, TN and attended nursing school at Madison College in Madison, TN. She enjoyed visiting with her grandkids, reading, photography, traveling and wintering in Florida. On October 7, 1961 she married Fred Paulus who survives. Also surviving are daughters, Tracy Paulus of Goshen, Tara (James) McGehee of Waxhaw, NC, and Tamra (Robert) Eichelberger of Aiken, SC; son, Trevor (Jennifer) Paulus of Osceola, IN; sisters, Joanne Davis and Mary (Ross) Swaney, both of Columbus, KY, and Ruth (Chris) Hart of Reidsville, NC; stepbrother, Patrick Henry (Evelyn) Hill of Park Hills, MO; 10 grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Wakarusa Missionary Church, with Pastor Paul Commons officiating. Burial will be at Olive (East) Cemetery.
