     Sarah Ellen Schwalm is also referred to as Elen in some sources.¹ She was born on 10 January 1874, Klingerstown, Mahantango Township, Schuylkill County, PA; Reprint of page from Schwalm Family Bible listing birth of "Sarah Elen" on 10th day of January 1874 and baptism on 3rd of [February ?] 1874 by [H ?] M Wentzel.^2,1,3 She was the daughter of Frederick Stein Schwalm and Sarah Ann Rubendall. As of circa 1894,her married name was Klinger. Sarah Ellen Schwalm and Milton C. Klinger obtained a marriage license on 8 August 1894; The license certificate states that "Milton C. Klinger was born in Northumberland Co. on the 28th day of Feb'y A.D. 1877, that he resides at Dauphin Co. Pa., that he is by occupation Laborer. . and that he has never been married before." It also states that "Ellen Schwalm was born Mahantango Twp. the 10th day of Jan'y, A.D. 1874, that she resides at Klingerstown, PA., and is by occupation Maid, that she has never been married before." The license acknowledges that the consent of the "Respective Fathers, residing at Sch. and Dauphin Cos." was filed on August 6, 1894. The "duplicate" certificate was returned by H.R. Hottenstein" on August 20, 1894.⁴ Sarah Ellen Schwalm married Milton C. Klinger, son of Daniel Klinger Jr. and Sevilla Shaffer, in August 1894; As of January, 1900, the time of the 1900 Census, Milton and "Ellen" had been married 6 years. The 1920 Census, Coal Township, Northumberand County, PA, lists "Ellen Klinger" as head of the following household: Klinger, Ellen, F, 46 [years old]; Guy, son, M, 25, single, Laborer, Water Works; Carl, son, M, 20, Single, Driver, Coal Mine; Fred, son, M, 17, single, Laborer, Coal Mine; Roy, son, M, 13; Sarah, daughter, F, 10; Ira, son, M, 5. The Census indicates that the family was living in rented housing on Walnut Street, adjacent to Grant and Carrie Zimmerman, her son-in-law and daughter. Carlos Klinger notes that the Zimmerman's owned the double house, and Ellen and her children llived in one-half of it. Ellen moved to Shamokin after her husband Milton committed suicide in 1918 (in Trevorton), first living in the 1100 block of West Walnut Street in the house owned by the Zimmermans. Sometime between about 1921 and 1923 she moved to the corner of Lynn Street and Bay Street and lived there until about 1932.^5,6 Sarah Ellen Schwalm died on 22 February 1947, Rush Township, Schuylkill County, PA, at age 73.³

Mrs. Sarah E. Klinger, Suddenly Stricken, Dies
Mrs. Sarah Ellen Klinger, 73, Klingerstown native, died suddenly at 3:15 p. m. Saturday [22 Feb. 1947] following a stroke at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Smeltz, in Grier City. She had been in her usual good health prior to her sudden demise.
She was born January 10, 1874 near Klingerstown, the daughter of Frederick and Sara Rubendall Schwalm, and was a lifelong member of Klinger's Reformed Church, at Erdman. Her husband, Milton Klinger, preceded her in death 29 years ago. Of the seven children which blessed the union, three preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons: Guy, of Herndon; Roy, of Shinglehouse, and Ira, of Montgomery, Ala; a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Smeltz, Grier City; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. Wednesday from the Rothermel funeral home, Herndon, with further services at two o'clock in Klinger's Reformed Church and burial in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Charles Snyder, Herndon, and Rev. Daniel I. Sultzbach, Valley View, will officiate.

MRS. MILTON KLINGER
Mrs. Sarah Ellen Klinger, widow of Milton Klinger, 73, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Schmeltz, Grier City, on Saturday afternoon.
Born in Klingerstown, a daughter of the late Fred Schwalm and Sarah Rubendall, she lived in Shamokin before removing to Grier City. She was a member of the Zlon's Lutheran and Reformed Church (Klinger"s).
She is survived by three sons, Guy, Herndon; Roy, Shingle House [sic] and Ira, Montgomery, Ala, and one daughter, Mrs. Schmeltz with whom she lived; 13 grandchildren ana three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. J. B. Clarke, Valley View.
Her body was removed to Herndon from where her funeral will be held on Wednesday with burial in the Zion's Lutheran Reformed Church cemetery.

She was buried on 26 February 1947, at Zion (Klinger's) Church, Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA; Tombstone at Klinger's Church lists age at death as 73 years, 1 month, 12 days.^8,7

     Daniel Klinger Jr. was born on 23 May 1852. Mary Klinger's book (1989) on p. 420 lists birth date as May "19" but as May "13" on p. 416. The Klinger's Church cemetery listings (pt II. p. 294) list the year of birth as 1860, but the funeral records, Irwin R. Klinger, Zion (Klinger's) Church History, Part II, p. 236 (1987), list the date of death as "June 27, 1919," age 67 years, 1 month, 4 days. This would seem to make the date of birth closer to May 23, 1852. The 1860 US Census for Dauphin County, Lykens Twp., p. 115, lists Daniel as age 7. The census enumeration was apparently done on June 28, 1860. If Daniel was born before June 28, 1852, he probably should have been listed as 8 years old, at the time of the census.¹ He married Sevilla Shaffer circa 1877; In the 1900 Census, listed as married 23 years. The 1880 Census for Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA, lists Daniel and Sevilla's family as follows: Daniel, M, 28, Farmer; Zevilla, F, 22, Wife; Chas. [?] 2, M, Son; Carrie E., F, 1, Daughter. Isaiah (?) (age 15) and Mary Romberger (age 11), are listed as servants, both are shown as having attended school that year.² From April 1900 until 1919 (following Daniel's death) Daniel and Sevilla lived on the homestead of Daniel's grandfather Peter Klinger, just south of Klinger's Church. Daniel and Sevilla purchased the roughly 70-acre farm on April 2, 1900. According to John Daniels, Daniel and Sevilla purchased the Peter Klinger homestead from Daniel's brother John. This was stated to Carlos Klinger on July 14, 1968. Following Daniel's death 1919, Sevilla and the heirs sold the property to Harry Daniel Klinger, Daniel and Sevilla’s son. The 1900 Census, Lykens Township, Dauphin County (District 40, Sheet 9), lists Daniel's family as follows: Klinger, Daniel, M, born May 1852, age 48, married 23 years, Farmer; Sevilla, Wife, F, born May, 1857, age 43, married 23 years, mother of 6 children, 1 child living [?]; Harry D., Son, M, born Feb. 1883, age 17; Willie O., Son, M, born June 1885, age 14.³ Family photos c 1915 and 1955. Daniel Klinger Jr. died on 27 June 1919, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA, at age 67.^4,5,6 He was buried on 30 June 1919, at Zion (Klinger's) Church, Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, PA.⁷
