E. Lester Rothermel Jr., 68, of Klingerstown, passed away Friday at SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Sunbury.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Louise Rightmyer Rothermel. The couple married Sunday, Aug. 25, 1968.
Born April 18, 1944, in Klingerstown, he was a son of the late Elwood L. "Beck" and Bernice N. Snyder Rothermel. He graduated from Tri-Valley High School and received a BS in agronomy from Penn State University.
Lester was employed as a soil scientist for the DEP for 35 years, retiring in 2005, and along with his wife, Louise, he owned and operated Mountain Apple Farm on Kopp Road in Klingerstown.
He was a member of Salem Church of Rough and Ready, where he was the youth group leader for many years and also taught the adult Sunday School class.
He was longtime committee member and merit badge counselor for Boy Scout Troop 652 as well as an active member of the SWCS, the PAPSS and SHAP Lester was a past president of the Pa. Farm Bureau. He enjoyed growing things and had an interest in genealogy and church history.
Also surviving are two children, Angela D. Erdman and her husband, Dr. Kenneth Erdman, Mifflintown, and Andrew D. Rothermel, Klingerstown; two grandchildren, Hannah Rose and Emily Nicole Erdman; five sisters, Carolyn Zartman, Millersburg, Joan Rothermel, Pitman, Mary Frost, Telford, Ruth Williard, Lykens, and Rachael Bryson, Halifax; a brother, David Rothermel, Klingerstown; nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Salem Church of Rough and Ready, where the funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery, Klingerstown.
