Eugene W. Erdman, 16, of RD1 Herndon, was pronounced dead at 3:50 p.m., Sunday, at Shamokin Hospital by Northumberland County Coroner Ernest Korten, as a result of drowning while swimmming in a farm pond on the Wehry Brothers Farm, RD Dornsife.
He was born in Ashland Hospital, Jan. 13, 1964, a son of Mrs. Bertha Lenig Erdman, RD 1 Herndon, and the late Eugene W. Erdman. He was a junior at Line Mountain High School, RD1 Herndon, where he attended Northumberland County Area Vo-Tech. In school, he was a member of Honor Society, Varsity Club, wrestling team on which he won the sectional championship, finished third in the district championship, and was runnerup in both regional and state championships in the 132 pound weight class.
He was named wrestler of the year by Upper Da[u]phin Sentinal.
He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, RD1 Klingerstown.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are six brothers, Jay, Charles, Barry, Glenn, Dennis and Dale, all of RD1 Herndon; a sister, Mrs. William (Patsy) Wolfe, RD1 Dornsife; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Erdman, Spring Glenn; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Laura Lenig, RD1 Shamokin.
Services will be held Thursday morning from Salem United Church of Christ, RD1 Klingerstown, with Rev. Elden Ehrhart, his pastor, and Rev. Wayne Wagner, pastor of Wesleyan Church, Rebuck, officiating. Interment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park Cemetery, Stonnington.
